Overview
The Marangu Route, often called the "Coca-Cola route," is the oldest path up Mount Kilimanjaro and one of the most popular ones. The trail lies inside Kilimanjaro National Park, traversing all climatic zones of the mountain from tropical forest to alpine desert. Uniquely, it is the only route that offers dormitory-style huts for overnight stays. And it is the only route that you ascend and descend compare to the other routes. Starting from Marangu Gate on the south-eastern side of the mountain, this route follows a well-established trail through several beautiful ecological zones. The trek begins in the lush rainforest where climbers walk under tall trees and may spot wildlife such as monkeys and colourful birds. As the journey continues, the landscape gradually changes into moorland and alpine desert, offering stunning views of the mountain and surrounding valleys.
